Full-time Research Assistant I (holding the functional title of “Project Executive”) in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 526249)  (to commence as soon as possible for 1 year, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)

 

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree or higher, preferably in Marketing, Journalism, Communications, Language, or a related discipline, and at least one year of full-time work experience. Candidates with experience in event management, public relations, and/or knowledge of publishing design, media, and communications (e.g., website/social media) will be given preference.

 

Successful candidates should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua), and be able to handle multiple assignments concurrently while balancing priorities and meeting deadlines. They should also be able to work independently and as part of a team, handle pressure, and multitask. Advanced computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) and Chinese word processing are required, while experience in scriptwriting and video production would be advantageous.

 

The appointee will be responsible for providing implementation assistance to the School Head, School Manager, and work groups; coordinating and engaging with different teams and school stakeholders in terms of project implementation and dissemination; creating promotional and dissemination events and materials (such as writing promotional articles and stories); managing events, project websites/social media/newsletter platforms; and assisting in daily operations and performing other assigned duties. Professor/Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Pre-modern Chinese Literature

Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Pre-modern Chinese Literature in the School of Chinese (Ref.: 524413), to commence on September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter.  Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year.

 

Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Pre-modern Literature or related fields, preferably in the area of poetry and verse.  A proven track record of commitment to excellence in teaching and research in Middle and Late Imperial Period Chinese literature is essential.  Special consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to the development of an innovative research-led teaching profile, and/or can engage students in Digital Humanities applications to Chinese literature or culture.  The successful candidate is expected to excel in undergraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and participate in collaborative research.

Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

 

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Pre-modern Chinese History or related fields, preferably with a specialisation in pre-Tang China and experience in utilising Digital Humanities or quantitative history methodologies.  A proven track record of dedication to teaching and research excellence in pre-modern Chinese history is essential.  Special consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to advancing an innovative research-driven teaching profile and can effectively engage students in Digital Humanities applications to Chinese history.

 

The successful candidate is expected to excel in undergraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and actively participate in collaborative research initiatives.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Chinese archaeology or related fields, with a preference for those who have specialised in archaeological data-based research on macro development trends and patterns of Neolithic or early historical societies. Candidates should have a solid background in archaeological excavations and a strong familiarity with the application of statistical methods in archaeology.
